Our Pride Tangting Village Kaski Nepal
On a fine morning, Tangting village lies slumbering in the sun in front of the smiling Annapurna range. From a distance, the village against a backdrop of rolling hills and lush green forests is a pretty sight to behold. The peace and quiet of the village is broken only by the twittering of birds, the sound of waves splashing on the Madi as well as other rivers and the battered rocks. The village, with about 200 house round the beautiful village and families has a predominantly Gurung population with a sprinkling of few other castes population. At the first break of daylight, the village comes to life and is a constant throb of color and activity. For most of the villagers, the agriculture has been the main source of livelihood for generations. The villagers grow many crops and vegetables like millet, corn, rice, wheat, potato and many more according to the season. All the villagers believe on hard work and they are paid back during the harvesting time as they work hard. Cattle rearing is also very common in the village. The villagers keep cattle like cow, buffalo, goat, sheep and ox. They keep it mainly for the milk and milk products, meat and also for the fertilizer for the crops. The villagers spend most of their time working in the field meanwhile, the women tend to their children and household chores.
Even though most of the people work in the field now a days a new trend of going abroad for work is very common among the new generation youngsters. Most of the educated and young people either move to the city or abroad for higher education or in search of job opportunities. This trend is kind of making the development process slow in the village. The village is moving towards the development slowly. The infrastructures of development are slowly being fulfilled in the village. In the past there was no electricity, no transportation, no communication and other media. Even the school was not well facilitated. Transportation is still the same but other facilities like the electricity, means of communication, and other media like the television and internet are available in the village. And the education system has been much improved and the student have more facilities these days.
As a whole Tangting being a Gurung cultured village, most of the visitors love it. They really enjoy being there and experience the Gurung culture. They are also attracted by the nature and warm welcome of the villagers with garlands of flowers and Panche Baja no matter where the visitor is from. All the Tangting villagers are working in hand to hand to develop their village as a model village. We hope all the effort will make big changes in the village in days to come.
